Richard Sjogren – President/CEO, Co-Founder

Rich is a former military officer with executive leadership experience in the high-tech industries of aerospace defense and aviation. He co-founded Baby Genes Inc. in order to make a difference and to help ensure that all parents get to enjoy their children as much as he enjoys his. Rich earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy and his MBA from Auburn University. In addition to his executive role, Rich also serves on the Baby Genes Board of Directors.

Tuan Le, MD – CLIA Laboratory Director

Dr. Tuan Le is a Clinical Pathologist and Laboratory Medicine Physician located in Centennial, Colorado. He is a volunteer faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where he has the opportunity to train Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellows. He is currently a consulting laboratory director with MJB and Associates, Inc. Dr. Le holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado, completed a residency in Pathology at the department of Pathology-University of Colorado, and a fellowship in Blood Banking at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

Katie Morris – Laboratory Manager

Katie has a diverse background in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries. Her experience includes small molecule drug discovery, microbial strain engineering for renewable chemical production, and developing and implementing automation workflows for biobanking and high throughput DNA extraction for downstream genetic analysis including Next-Generation Sequencing. Katie earned her B.A. in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology with a minor in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Max Truesdel – Director of Business Development

Max has been in the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, biotech and medical services space for over 15 years. He has executive leadership, management and sales experience with Pharmacia Corp., Athena Diagnostics, CCS Medical and Vitas Healthcare working with institutions such as Stanford Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, UC-Davis Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Max earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Dayton (OH). In his spare time he helps coach youth sports and is active with his family in the Colorado outdoors snowboarding, fly fishing and hiking.

Matthew Hardison, PhD, FACMG – Clinical Consultant

Dr. Hardison recently joined the Baby Genes team to provide support for clinical case review and sign-out. Dr. Hardison is a boarded molecular geneticist and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. Dr. Hardison graduated with a PhD in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he also did his Postdoctoral training with the Department of Medicine. Dr. Hardison performed his clinical fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and has many peer-reviewed scientific publications to his credit. Dr. Hardison is a welcome addition to the Baby Genes Team.

Kathleen Fergus, MS, LCGC – Genetic Counselor

Kathleen brings over 15 years experience in newborn screening and over 20 years experience in clinical genetics. She has worked at a newborn screening coordinator for Kaiser Permanente for eight years (for the state of California) and also worked as a project coordinator for the Screening, Technology and Research in Genetic (STAR-G) Project developing educational materials for rare metabolic disorders and doing research into the ethical, legal and social issues involved in the expansion of newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry. Most recently she has worked as a laboratory genetic counselor for Roche Sequencing Solutions. She has her Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling for the University of California Irvine and her B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University.
